MURF Meeting

Hello all,

Since the MURF report was presented to North Bay Council last Spring, several companies have apparently showed an interest in its recommendations.

One of those companies is Summer365 Inc.

The President of Summer365 stated the following to me in a recent email:

I am the President of Summer365 Inc., an indoor multi-sports turf centre in Newmarket, Ontario. The reason for this letter is to inform you of our plans to expand our brand and bring a permanent indoor sport and turf facility to the North Bay region. It is important to note, we are a private for-profit business and while we are NOT looking for any financial partnership, we are seeking your support and commitment.

As you are aware, the City of North Bay and the surrounding region lacks sufficient indoor sports turf facilities to offset the long unfavorable weather conditions associated with Canadian winters. These conditions plague our athletes (recreational and elite) and prevent them from playing the summer sports they enjoy. This lack of facilities has been well documented by the Multi-Use Recreational Facility (MURF) Study commissioned by the City of North Bay.
Over the past 6-months we have garnered support from various sports organizations as well as from the City of North Bay staff for our project and it is our hope that we are able to have operational a 42,000 sq. ft. Indoor Multi-Sport Turf Complex for October, 2014.

The facility is slated to house an Infill Turf multi-sport field that is divisible into three smaller practice fields ideal for soccer, football, lacrosse, ultimate, softball, baseball, track & field, and rugby to operate leagues and skill development/practice programs. In addition, it will contain 2 batting cages both equipped with pitching machines (1-Baseball and 1-Slow Pitch/Softball) and portable pitching mounds. Other amenities will include meeting rooms, players/parents lounge, and change rooms.

At this time, I am looking to schedule a meeting in North Bay where we can provide you and the Board with more information on the project in hopes of garnering support and commitments that would enable us to move forward on this project. If you are able to help in any manner and perhaps reach out to other potential user groups that to would be much appreciated.

In this regard, Sport North Bay is attempting to facilitate a meeting to hear their proposal!

Please complete the poll at http://www.doodle.com/7a27nq5drv6zbz3g no later than Thursday, January 23rd , so that the date that allows the most to attend can be selected and a location determined!

We will the announce the date, time and location on our website [www.sportnorthbay.ca] and on our Facebook page on Monday, the 27th.

Please forward this to any athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and/or spectators who you feel may be interested!
